SAFE DRINKING WATER IS
EVERYONE'S RESPONSIBILITY
BACKFLOW PREVENTION
IT'S IN YOUR BEST INTEREST..........
|
Backflow prevention programs are required by
state and federal law to insure safe water for drinking, bathing, and cooking.
Malvern Water Works’ job is to regulate the public water supply and insure that
reasonable safety measures are taken to protect the safe drinking water from the
beginning of the treatment process to the customer’s meter. The customer is
responsible for making sure that his or her own plumbing system is safe and
operating properly.
A Backflow Prevention Device interrupts the connection between
the safe public water supply and potential contamination sources, preventing the
accidental contamination of your drinking water.
Malvern Water Works is required to enforce the Arkansas Plumbing Code regarding
the testing and inspection of Backflow Prevention Devices.
All water customers who have backflow devices are required to
have the devices tested annually and repaired if necessary. A copy of the test
results must be filed with Malvern Water Works.
Pesticides, fertilizers and bacteria can be siphoned into the public water
system through lawn irrigation systems that do not have properly working
backflow prevention devices. Industrial chemicals and other undesirable
substances can also be drawn into the public water system in situations where
prevention devices are absent or not maintained properly.
Each year there are hundreds of water-system-related accidents caused by
contaminated water being siphoned back into the public water system and coming
out somewhere else.
