How To Read Your Water Meter
Typical Water Meter

The reading for this meter is
41897.

 ^     ^    ^    ^    ^   x    x
^ = Read      x = Don't Read

Read from left to right. Omit all leading zeros. Read all numbers highlighted in white and only the first number highlighted in black. This meter does not have a leading zero. 4189 is highlighted in white. 7 is highlighted in black. The 4 and 0 that is highlighted in black is ignored.

Now that you know how to read the meter here is what you do with it. Read your water meter on the 1st day of the month. Subtract the previous month's reading from it. For example, if the previous month's reading was 41865 and this month's reading is 41897 you would subtract 41865 from 41897. 3,200 is the water usage in gallons you had for the month.
You can use the Water Usage Calculator to get an estimate of your water bill. It will calculate the gallons used from the meter readings and estimate your water bill according to the type of water customer you are.
This is only an estimate
